It was probably a general dentist. It was probably a while ago. And it was probably about bone.
All three of those things can be true and the answer can still be wrong, because a refusal is almost always about one method, not about you.

Here's the part that usually goes unexplained. A standard implant is a post that goes up into the jawbone. Lose teeth and that bone shrinks, year after year, until there isn't the depth to hold one. Above it sits the sinus, and there's nowhere further to go.
So the dentist says no. They're not brushing you off. For the implant they place, in the bone you have, it's the honest answer.
There is another way to do it, and it has been done for years. It just isn't done in an ordinary office.
It goes in at the same place and carries on past the bone that has been lost, into the cheekbone. That's the whole technique, and the reason specialist centers exist to do it.
That's why our price list reads differently from an ordinary office. Bone grafting. Sinus lifts. Custom titanium frameworks made for one jaw. Full reconstruction of an upper jaw with nothing left to build on.
None of that is an upsell. It's what's needed when the simple version isn't available, which is to say it exists for exactly the person who has already been turned away once.
Not a sales meeting. An hour whose only job is to tell you whether this is possible for you, including if the answer is still no.
Example prices. Financing available.
IV sedation is available with an anesthesiologist present, and it's talked through at the consultation rather than sprung on you that morning.
The center teaches this surgery to other dentists, and takes referrals from colleagues for the cases they can't manage themselves.
Because a refusal is usually about one method. Most offices place standard implants and nothing else, so when the bone isn't there, no is the honest answer from them. A center doing zygomatic work, grafting and reconstruction is answering a different question.
Complex cases are the ordinary ones here. Nobody will react to how long it's been. Almost everyone who walks in has been carrying it for years, and most of them assumed they were the worst case.
IV sedation is available with an anesthesiologist present. It's discussed at the consultation, before anything is booked, and it's on the price list rather than added afterward.
Maybe not, and you'd know at the consultation rather than after three appointments. The ranges above are real numbers, not teasers, and financing is there if it helps. Nobody asks your budget before you've been told what you actually need.
Oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Full-arch and zygomatic cases are most of her week, and she plans every one of them herself on the 3D scan.
The center teaches implant surgery to other dentists, and takes referrals from colleagues for the cases they can't manage themselves. Which is a reasonable thing to know about the person who'd be doing yours.
Pick the one you were given. Most of them describe a method that didn't suit you, rather than a door that closed.
None of the above is a promise about your case. It's the general picture, and the only way to know about yours is to be seen.
Someone calls you back. You don't have to have decided anything, and you don't need to know what you need. That's what the appointment is for.
